22nd October 2007:

Only 2 more episodes of the current run of Doc Martin to go, and hasn't it been a great series! Mondays at 21.00 on ITV1

ITV1 will also be screening a new drama called Half Broken Things on Sunday 28th October at 21.00, which Colin scored the music for. A house-sitter facing retirement is on her last job in a country house; a place so enchanting she begins to live in it as if it was her own. When fate brings two strangers to the house, a petty thief and pregnant girl on the run from an abusive boyfriend, the unlikely trio soon form a strong bond, living as a family in the borrowed house. But theirs is a life based on deception and delusion, and as the summer draws to a close, they resort to violent ends to try to maintain their idyllic existence

The Gillan Singles CD boxset + promo video DVD was actually released in the UK today (22nd October) and not as mentioned in my previous entry!

Bye........

6th October 2007:

Good news (possibly!) for all you Gillan fans out there. Hot on the heels of the CD re-issues a few months back, Demon/Edsel are releasing Gillan The Singles Box Set on 20th October 2007. It is a box set of all eleven singles by Gillan, in CD-sized replicas of their original 7” sleeves. The box also includes a bonus DVD of seven promo videos, which have never been commercially released in any format, and have remained unseen since they were broadcast on a handful of occasions in the early 80s. The booklet is annotated by Ian Gillan, along with respected critic Valerie Potter.

The tracklisting is as follows:

'Vengeance' / 'Smoke On The Water' [live at Kingsway Recorders]
'Sleeping On The Job' / 'Higher And Higher'
' No Easy Way' [single edit] / 'Handles On Her Hips' / 'I Might As Well Go Home (Mystic)'
'Trouble' / 'Your Sister’s On My List' / 'Mr' Universe' [live] / 'Vengeance' [live] / 'Smoke On The Water' [live]
'Mutually Assured Destruction' / 'The Maelstrom'
'New Orleans' / 'Take A Hold Of Yourself'
' No Laughing In Heaven' [single edit] / 'One For The Road' / 'Lucille' / 'Bad News'
'Nightmare' / 'Bite The Bullet' [live]
'Restless' / 'On The Rocks' [live]
'Living For The City' / 'Breaking Chains' / 'Purple Sky'
'Long Gone' / 'Fiji'

Bonus DVD: The Videos
'Sleeping On The Job', 'No Laughing In Heaven', 'Lucille', 'Nightmare', 'Restless', 'Living For The City', 'Long Gone'.

This is the first release on CD of the re-recorded single 'No Laughing In Heaven'! Wow!

Now you know........

22nd September 2007:

The new series (third) of Doc Martin begins on on ITV1 Monday 24th September at 21.00. Don't forget, Colin has also released a CD of the music from the series, which is due out early October! And pretty good it is too........

Anglo-Saxon Attitudes has now been released in the UK on DVD. The credits and DVD image have been added to the Mini-series section of the site for your perusal!

Provocateur Records (www.provocateurrecords.co.uk) are about to release a CD by Vladyslav Sendecki called Piano in Germany only (although there are plans for a possible release in the UK at some stage). For those who don't know, Vladyslav is the keyboard player with the German NDR Big Band, and toured the UK with Colin last year. It's due out on 2nd November and includes a few reworkings of other peoples' material, as well as his own compositions. This is well worth a listen, believe me.........

TTFN.......

10th September 2007:

The credits to The Man Who Lost His Head and the 'so far unreleased in the UK' film Red Mercury have now been added to the Films section of the site

As mentioned last time, Colin will be releasing a CD soundtrack to the hit ITV1 series Doc Martin in early October. I've now added the CD to the Discography section of the site, where you can find out the tracklisting, recording details, etc. It's released by POV Records (the soundtrack division of Provocateur Records), catalogue number POV1105

Doc Martin CD cover

I've now listended to it a few times and it's great! There's even some banjo playing on it - but it's certainly not Deliverance! It's been a long time since any of Colin's soundtrack music has surfaced on CD so it's a real treat to hear this. Help him out and buy a copy or two ASAP. Show Colin you want to hear and buy his music. If it flies off the shelves like hot cakes then other releases may be considered. A lack of support now means no new product in future!

And please don't forget his other soundtrack releases on POV Records (details of which can be found in the Discography section). Guest House Paradiso and Catherine Cookson Collection Volume 1 are also still available via his own website at www.provocateurrecords.co.uk

See ya soon.......

20th August 2007:

Something new to keep those mince pies peeled for! Yep, watch out for The Man Who Lost His Head, starring Martin Clunes, a straight-laced museum curator who must travel to New Zealand to return a Maori carving. It will be shown on ITV1 on Sunday 26th August at 21.00. The music has a Maori flavour to it which Colin enjoyed working on

Other news is that Colin's currently working on a TV drama called Half Broken Things, and will shortly be working on the music to the third series of Doc Martin. To coincide with the series a CD soundtrack will be released at the start of October. He has also been recently rehearsing with the Birmingham Royal Ballet for a tour to Truro, Poole and Cheltenham. He transcribed the music of Dave Brubeck for quartet called Take Five and the ballet then tours next Spring in the UK including Take Five and The Orpheus Suite at Birmingham, Oxford, Sunderland and Plymouth. Finally, Colin will also work on the play for Terry Hands' The Cherry Orchard which opens at Theatr Clywd in Mold, North Wales in October

The credits to Cold Blood IV (Dead And Buried) have now been added to the Films section of the site

See ya.......

20th June 2007:

The credits to Cold Blood III (Interference) have now been added to the Films section of the site. Don't forget to watch next week at the same time for Cold Blood IV (Dead And Buried) (that's Wednesday 27th June at 21.00 on ITV1). It looks like the last one in the current series (The Last Hurrah) may be postponed for a while as it deals with the abduction of a child - clearly a sensitive issue here in the UK at present. Let's pray Maddie McCann is still safe and well and will be soon returned to her family

Bye.......

19th June 2007:

A bit late this piece of news, but still worth watching! Two new programmes featuring Colin's music are about to be unleashed upon the masses. ITV1 will be screening Cold Blood III (Interference) on Wednesday 20th June at 21.00, with Cold Blood IV (Dead And Buried) getting an airing the following Wednesday 27th June at 21.00. Short and sweet this time! Bye.......

17th May 2007:

I've just managed to find a nice little CD that Colin has played on as a guest. It's called Like Molten Lava In Your Veins by Trans World Orchestra. I know nothing about them other than they are a didgeridoo and drums combo that apparently went down a treat with those attending the Edinburgh Festival last year.

It's really pretty good, with 3 of the 5 tracks being recorded in Colin's studio around 2005. He also adds keyboards and sounds to the second track, while Colin's right-hand man Toby Woods takes on engineering duties. In all a great, if not slightly unusual CD. However, I don't know whether it's widely available or can be obtained from one of their gigs - I did try their website but it didn't seem to work. Details of the CD can be found via the Guest Appearances section of the site

Bye.......

29th March 2007:

The credits and episode synposis to Mobile have now been added to the Mini-series section of the site

Ching, ching, cheerio.......

17th March 2007:

ITV1 will be screening the first of a new 3-part crime drama called Mobile on Monday 19th March at 21.00. It stars Julie Graham, Neil Fitzmaurice, John Thomson and Keith Allen. Police discover two seemingly unrelated crimes - the murder of a mobster and the destruction of two phone masts - are linked by the common factor of mobile phones. A former engineer for a telecommunications company, who blames his inoperable tumour on years of working with the devices, soon becomes their chief suspect. Continues for the next 2 Mondays at 21.00. By all accounts, it's a cracker! And yes, Colin did the music for it..........

Bye.......

4th March 2007:

Just to let you know that Colin has scored the music to the new drama Cold Blood II, which will be premiered on ITV1 on Monday 5th March at 21.00. It has the same actors as the first Cold Blood, namely Jemma Redgrave, Johyn Hannah, Matthew Kelly and David Calder. If you miss it then you catch it again on ITV3 on Saturday 10th March at 23.00, and again on ITV3 Plus 1 at midnight on Saturday night / Sunday morning 11th March. If that wasn't enough to whet your appetite, there's also Cold Blood III, IV and V to come! Three and four have been filmed, just five to get filmed in a month or two. More details when I get 'em

And for all you Gillan fans, the long wait is finally over! Seven Gillan / Ian Gillan Band CDs are due to be released on 2nd April and 7th May respectively. All have been digitally remastered and include the original artwork. Expect the Gillan albums Mr Universe, Glory Road, Future Shock and Double Trouble in April, followed a month later by Ian's first solo album Child In Time (Ian Gillan Band - but NOT featuring Colin!), Live At The Budokan (Ian Gillan Band) and Magic (Gillan).

There are no real surprises on there except for the tracks left off the CDs first time around, namely the flexi-only Spanish Guitar, the studio version of Lucille (B-side of No Laughing In Heaven 7") and Smoke On The Water (live in the studio - B-side to Vengeance 7"). However, I don't think the re-recorded 7" single version of No Laughing In Heaven makes an appearance anywhere. This could have been swapped with Ian's solo tracks South Africa and John - after all, they weren't strictly Gillan tracks at all!

And no 'previously unreleased' material either. I'm sure the company behind Demon / Edsel didn't try hard enough, but hey, we've got the albums at last. Let's hope they sound superior to those initial releases. If anyone has an opinion on them let us know through the Forum / Discussion area

See ya soon.......
