More new stuff to keep your eyes peeled for this Christmas!

Firstly, The Tale Of Jack Frost will premier on CBBC on Friday 24th December at 14.15. The second and last (sadly!) new item is the film Not Only But Always, a dramatisation of the life of comic genius Peter Cook, starring Rhys Ifans and Aiden McArdle. It will be shown on Channel 4 on Thursday 30th December at 21.00

Then the three-parter The Wingless Bird will also be shown back-to-back on Sunday 12th December at 21.00, repeated later in the early hours of Monday 13th December

More Angelina Ballerina! She's dancing her little heart out EVERYDAY on Nick Junior at 10.30, repeated later the same day at 16.00. Rumour has it that there may be a possibility of NEW episodes in the offing, but as yet I can't confirm this..........

The DVD for Man Dancin' was released on 25th October, and the DVD for Crimson Rivers 2: Angels Of The Apocalypse was released in France on 5th October. So far, there's no news on a UK date. Double Zero will be released on single and double DVD sets in France on 5th February 2005

Angelina Ballerina keeps dancing her little heart out! As there's so much to write, I'll give give the basic details here:

  • on Nick Junior every day at 10.30, repeated later the same day at 16.00
  • on Nick Replay (Monday through Friday) at 11.00
  • on Nickelodeon (Monday through Friday) at 10.00

Incidentally, the films Man Dancin' and Crimson Rivers 2: Angels Of The Apocalypse will be released on DVD in the next few weeks - details are not known yet, but it would appear Colin will feature on both

Colin has just finished recording the ident music for a UK Sky channel called Film Flex as well as the music to the French film My Angel (Mon Ange). He has also to finish recording additional music for the animation Fungus The Bogeyman, which should be transmitted this Christmas. He started the project over 18 months ago, but on-going technical problems with the animation process has meant the programme has fallen behind schedule. It does mean though, that the original programme will now be in two parts

Now for some news on Colin's latest Mask Orchestra release, as promised last time. Their new CD, The Orpheus Suite was released yesterday (4th October). The 20 piece big band features such luminaries as Guy Barker, Alan Skidmore, John Parricelli, Dave Hartley and Peter King, as well as three of Birmingham Royal Ballet's percussionists. The album is inspired by the ancient Greek tragedy Orpheus In The Underworld

The Suite is part of David Bintley's three-part dance tribute to Duke Ellington, entitled Such Sweet Thunder, which also includes Ellington's The Nutcracker Sweeties and The Shakespeare Suite. Colin Towns' Mask Orchestra will be playing all three suites in a series of concerts. They will be performing at Birmingham Hippodrome on 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th October, then London Sadler Wells on 28th, 29th and 30th October, before going on to Plymouth Theatre Royal on 4th, 5th and 6th November

I've been fortunate to hear the album already and it's a belter. However, if you're coming to it as a Gillan fan, or expecting it to sound like some of his soundtrack music, then you're in for a shock. If you're familiar with any of Colin's other Mask albums, then this will be right up your street. As I'm not your typical reviewer, I'm not even going to bother to attempt to critically appraise this monster. Suffice to say it's a marvellous piece of work, with plenty of light and shade and everything else in between. Check it out now!

See you soon.........

18th September 2004:

If it's more 'fresh' music you're after, then you're in luck! Colin has written the score for King Of Fridges, a comedy drama starring Richard Wilson (of One Foot In The Grave fame). It's a 60 minute film on the theme of being trapped and will be shown on ITV1 tonight (Saturday 18th September) starting at 21.10

Angelina Ballerina keeps on dancing. Programme details can be found in the previous entry

The credits to the film Man Dancin' have now been added to the film section of the site. There's also a Man Dancin' website, where you can hear one of Colin's tracks from the film

Also added are the details of Doc Martin (credits and synopsis for each episode so far) and Clarissa, both in the mini-series section

The Colin Towns' Mask Orchestra will be releasing their new CD The Orpheus Suite in the next few weeks, and playing a series of concerts in the UK. More info in a couple of days. However, I've added details of the CD to the Jazz Music, Discography and Provocateur Records sections of the site

Bye for now.........

2nd September 2004:

Good news for all Colin fans! I know it's short notice, but I've only just found out myself! Starting tonight is a new 6 part series on ITV1 called Doc Martin. It stars Martin Clunes and the music is by Colin Towns. If you miss it tonight (or any Thursday for that matter) you can always see a repeat of it the following Wednesday.

The blurb on it says:

"Martin Clunes stars in Doc Martin, a brand new comedy drama, as a doctor whose truculence and tactless manner causes mayhem in a small Cornish community.

Martin plays surgeon Martin Ellingham, whose glittering career comes crashing down around him when he develops a phobia which prevents him conducting operations.

He makes a life changing decision to retrain as a GP, and applies for a vacant post in the sleepy Cornish hamlet of Portwenn, where he spent childhood holidays.

If the patients are expecting tea and sympathy from their curmudgeonly GP they are going to be disappointed. Despite his surgical brilliance, he has no personal skills, and his understanding of humans is practically non existent."

Details so far are:

  • Episode 1: Going Bodmin - on Thursday 2nd September at 21.00, repeated on Wednesday 8th September at 23.00
  • Episode 2: Gentlemen Prefer - on Thursday 9th September at 21.00, repeated on Wednesday 15th September at 23.00

More info as and when I get it. Strangely, there's also 2 films currently running on Sky Movies with the title Doc Martin, starring Martin Clunes. The first (the sequel!) is to be shown on Sky Movies 3 in the early hours of Friday 10th September at 04.00 and is called Doc Martin and The Legend Of The Cloutie. It's about a doctor who resorts to local spells to persuade a sneaky family that they don't really want to live in Port Issac when he is gazumped out of his dream cottage. The second film (the original!) is to be shown on Sky Movies 9 in the early hours of Monday 13th September at 03.15 and is simply called Doc Martin. It's described as a comedy about an obstetrician who boards a train bound for Cornwall in a jealous rage after finding out about his wife's infidelities. However, when she arrives to bring him home, he is not sure how ready he is to leave the eccentric fishing folk of Port Issac behind

Huge similarities there, wouldn't you say?!?! I don't think Colin had anything to do with the music to both these films, but I'll check it out just in case

16th April 2004:

Great news for CT fans who want to get their hands on a copy of the Beatrix Potter Music Collection on CD. This proves to be a very popular title and I get loads of inquiries about it and the likelihood of it being re-released again. Unfortunately, it's not! But currently there are two ebayers who have a copy each of the CD for sale via www.ebay.co.uk. Those of you who are interested better be quick as there's only 2 or 3 days left on the auctions. Good luck!

Finally, and totally unknown to me, Colin has just released a new CD soundtrack to the film Crimson Rivers 2 - Angels Of The Apocalypse, or more correctly Les Rivières Pourpres 2 - Les Anges de l'Apocalypse. Both the CD and film were released last week only in France, and unfortunately there are no plans (as yet) to release the CD or film in the UK. It stars Jean Reno, Benoit Maginel and Christopher Lee and looks set to be a big film. I've now added the film credits to the Film section and the CD information has been added to the Discography section. A huge thanks go to Olivier Joussein in France for putting me wise to the CD and for supplying me with the film and CD credits. You're a star!

Coming in the next day or two.......the Colin Towns Interview Number 2..........!

Cheers for now......
