The Girl - episode synopsis

• Episode 1 - The arrival of a dying woman and her young daughter sends shock waves through Thornton House when the mystery woman reveals the father of her child is the home owner Matthew Thornton. When Thornton agrees to take in the child to raise alongside his three other children, his wife is horrified

• Episode 2 - Continuing the tale of Hannah Boyle, a girl adopted by her long-lost father but never accepted by her new stepmother. Stepbrother Matthew is found badly beaten, and the whole family's fortune comes under the spotlight. Anne spots a chance for revenge against Hannah when she fails to recognise Ned Ridley's offer. Forced into marriage with butcher Fred Loam, Hannah gets some shocking news after her wedding
