Ivanhoe - episode synopsis

  • Episode 1 - Accused of treachery, Ivanhoe returns from Palestine to redeem his sullied name, reclaim his inheritance and win the hand of Rowena, princess of an ancient Saxon line. In Prince John's tournament, Ivanhoe must challenge Bois-Guilbert, the man who knows who really betrayed King Richard

  • Episode 2 - Prince John hopes the supremacy of the Norman champions in his tournament will crush the Saxon renaissance and strengthen his claim to the English throne. Ivanhoe's heroism and the intervention of a mysterious black knight might yet scupper his plans

  • Episode 3 - Prince John forbids Rowena's marriage to Athelstane, outraging Cedric and providing Bois-Guilbert with a chance to antagonise Ivanhoe by suggesting a union with de Bracy instead. But plots are there to be foiled, and Rebecca, smitten by the dashing Ivanhoe, is given an opportunity to show her courage

  • Episode 4 - Wamba disguises himself as a priest to save the lives of the captives. Cedric's escape precipitates a bloody seige, and a tragic fate looks set to befall everyone. Bois-Guilbert's feelings for Rebecca turn to blind obsession, driving them both to dangerous limits

  • Episode 5 - Isaac's attempts to free his daughter lands him in hot water with the Templar Grand Master, who imprisons him for heresy and then rubs salt in his wounds by trying Rebecca for sorcery. Ignorant of her plight, Ivanhoe is persuaded by King Richard to reconcile with his father and marry the fair Rowena

  • Episode 6 - Ivanhoe learns that Rebecca is alive, but she may not be for much longer unless a champion is found to conquer Bois-Guilbert. To Rowena's dismay, Ivanhoe prepares for combat, unaware of how he is threatening those who are plotting for the English throne
