- Episode 1 - 1964 - Award-winning drama serial charting thirty years in the lives
of four Geordie friends. When Nicky decides he wants to change the world and campaign for
Harold Wilson, he neglects his childhood sweetheart, Mary, and betrays the dream of his
best friend Geordie. Mary and would-be popstar Tosker make the mistake that will change
their lives forever, and Geordie hitches to Soho, London
- Episode 2 - 1966 - With the Beatles and Harold Wilson holding sway over England,
everything has changed. In London, Geordie gets a new job with a Soho porn baron. In
Newcastle, Tosker's dreams and marriage to Mary are both fading fast, while shady deals and
master fixers are beginning to show Nicky that the world of politics is not all it seemed
- Episode 3 - 1967 - Geordie is the prince of Soho strip clubs, although his affair
with Barratt's mistress can only lead to trouble. In Newcastle, Mary begins making
enquiries into who built her high rise flat which is falling apart and the trail leads her
to old love, Nicky. Meanwhile, Tosker and Geordie share a night that will change their lives forever
- Episode 4 - 1970 - In the summer of 1970, Nicky and Geordie meet up in London.
They are worlds apart - Geordie is a drunken porn merchant and Nicky a fiery political
terrorist - but the police are after both of them. Back in Newcastle, Tosker expands his
fruit and veg business and Mary makes a move into politics
- Episode 5 - 1974 - Geordie finds himself in jail, Nicky is planning revolution
from a sausage factory, and Tosker and Mary's marriage is an empty shell. Time has run out
for Nicky's old mentor, Donahue, as his own past catches up with him. But not before he
gives Nicky some good advice
- Episode 6 - 1979 - The nation is in the grip of disco fever and punk rock and all
four friends are living in Newcastle for the first time in 15 years. But change is on the
way - Nicky cuts his hair, stands for Parliament and redeclares his love for Mary; Tosker
meets the woman of his dreams; while Geordie deals in drugs
- Episode 7 - 1984 - The miners' strike dominates the country and Mary and Tosker
come into conflict with their policeman son on the picket lines. Mary consolidates her
power, Tosker makes his first million and Nicky returns to Newcastle as a celebrated
photographer. Is it, at last, time for him to sort out his romance with Mary?
- Episode 8 - 1987 - Middle age looms, accompanied by the usual crises. Mary's
marriage is suffering from too much work and not enough fidelity; Geordie is a danger on
the streets; and Tosker is on the brink of losing his millions. These bleak times are
shaken by further tragedy as the great hurricane strikes
- Episode 9 - 1995 - The friends return to Newcastle for an emotional reunion. Nicky and Mary have not seen each other for eight years, Tosker is about to open his grandest venture, and Geordie, fresh out of prison, might finally realise his childhood ambition of rock 'n' roll fame
